Lady Warriors advance to state quarterfinals with 42-35 win over West Las Vegas; Magdalena and Alamo girls eliminated

The Lady Warriors advance to the quarterfinals of the 3A NMAA Girls Basketball Tournament with a 42-35 win over West Las Vegas. The Lady Warriors got out to a 7-1 lead and were never trailed or were tied in the game. The Lady Dons did get within 1 point in the 3rd quarter at 26-25, but the Lady Warriors went on a 6-0 run to stretch the lead to 32-25 and West Las Vegas never got closer that 5 again. The Lady Warriors had 4 players foul out and the Lady Dons had 3 foul out. The teams shot 76 free throws combined. Gabby Paz led the Lady Warriors in scoring with 16 followed by Talene Fowler with 13. The Lady Warriors are now 18-6 and have won 8 in a row. They will travel to Sante Fe Indian School on Tuesday for the quarterfinal round. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. and Mine Country 102.1 will broadcast the game beginning at 6:45 with pre-game.

Magdalena’s girls traveled to Maxwell for their first round game and were defeated 44-31 to end their season with a 20-8 record. Alamo Navajo traveled to Roswell to play Gateway Christian and lost 52-33, ending their season with a 16-12 record.
